You've got questions, we've got answers! Here are the most common questions we receive from families who are exploring what bina has to offer.
Admissions
Q: How do I get started?
A: The first step is to meet with us! During this call, we'll give you an introduction of our school and you can ask all your questions. Book a time to meet with one of our pedagogical experts here.
Q: What is the cost of tuition?
A: The cost of tuition is $875 monthly. If you’re able to commit to a longer period of time, the cost of tuition decreases: if you can pay quarterly, the cost is $2494 (5% savings) or if you can pay yearly, the cost is $9450 (10% savings).
Q: Is there a family discount for siblings?
A: Yep! We offer a 10% discount for siblings after the first fully enrolled child.
Q: Will I need to purchase books or materials for courses?
A: You will not need to purchase any books or materials for courses, apart from typical office supplies.
Here’s what your child will need for each learning session:
1. Reliable internet connection.
2. A computer with video and audio capabilities. Not a tablet or a Chromebook.
3. Lots of paper and pencils for class activities. Students should also have basic watercolour paints and paintbrushes, erasers, glue, tape, Play-Doh, and child-friendly scissors. Sometimes your child will also need crafting items such as cardboard, a plastic bottle, or paper plates. We’ll always give you a heads up the week before so that you can make sure your child has what they need before their lesson.
A day in the life at bina
Q: What does a daily schedule look like?
A: Typically, students learn from 9:00 to 14:30, with breaks built into the schedule.
Q: Will my child remain physically active throughout the day?
A: Learning sessions are often a mix of sitting and movement to keep our brains active and engaged. After each of these sessions, students have a 5 - 10 minute break, with a longer break for lunch. During these breaks, we encourage students to move around as well. Children also will participate in off-screen, independent, playful learning activities with other children or grown-ups.
Q: How many kids are in each class?
A: The maximum number of students in each class is 7.
Q: How many teachers lead one class?
A: Each class is matched with a Master Teacher and an Assistant Teacher.
Q: Do I need to be in the same room as my child while they are in class?
A: We aim to focus on student interaction during our lessons, and our Master Teachers are fully prepared to lead all learning activities, discussions, crafts, and games without parental guidance. However, we know that sometimes it’ll be necessary for you to pop in and give your child some support. Check out this article for more information about parental involvement during bina lessons.
Q: Where do bina students live?
A: Our students live all over the world. The majority of our students live within or near two timezones: ET and CET. However, we have families that are able to make one of these timezones work for them, even if they don’t live in that particular timezone.
Curriculum
Q: What curriculum does bina use?
A: Our students study literacy, numeracy, technical sciences, social sciences, digital technology, design technology, the arts, and social-emotional learning. Our curriculum is grounded in UK standards with elements of the US Common Core, International Baccalaureate (PYP), and the Australian curriculum woven in. You can read more about our curriculum here.
Q: Will teachers meet my child’s academic needs?
A: Small class sizes means that teachers are able to truly understand their students’ needs. We have built a feedback loop through continual, informal assessment, which gives teachers the information they need about their students’ academic progress. In turn, we’re able to customise lessons so that they target exactly what our students need to practice.
