Five tips to set up your child for a great first day

We want your kiddo to feel warmly welcomed, supported, and prepared for their first day of lessons at bina.

With such small class sizes, our teachers are able to give your child plenty of attention and support, especially at the beginning as they’re figuring out how everything works. But there are some things you can do on your end to help, too!

Here are five of our best tips to help you set up your child for a fantastic first day of lessons.

Set up a designated learning space

Lessons at bina are hands-on! Along with the device your child will be using to connect to lessons, you'll need to have other supplies on hand that they might need (paper, pencils, eraser, coloured pencils, markers, glue, tape, child-friendly scissors, Play-Doh). A comfortable, quiet learning space can make a world of difference in helping your child focus and get the most out of their lessons.

Plan breaks

Talk with your child beforehand about what they would like to do during breaks. Will they go to the bathroom each time? How do they plan to get their wiggles out? If they’re hungry, which snack is available to eat?

Help your child get used to their new learning routine

Each day, we follow a similar routine, which your child’s teacher will review. To further support your kiddo in growing their confidence about their new routine, make a schedule together and hang it up somewhere visible. If your child isn’t reading yet, make sure that the schedule includes visuals. Soon enough, they’ll have a good idea of what to expect each day.

Be present

During your child’s first week or two, be prepared to be close by in case they need help. Once your child is feeling comfortable with their new learning routine, you’ll be able to step back and do your own thing during the school day. Our teachers will support from their end, but it’s helpful to have a parent helping as well, especially at first. We'll reach out to you via Telegram if we need to connect with you during your child's school day.

Reflect

After your child’s first few days, reflect with them on what has gone smoothly and what has felt a little bumpy. Chat about how you can work together to make the next couple of days even better. Feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions that come up– we will be doing all we can to support your child’s learning journey.
